Improvement of Makariou Avenue in Nicosia

Our involvement in this pivotal project for the capital was to supply and install the traffic signals and associated poles along the avenue. The project is the first of its kind in Cyprus as cantilever poles were installed to enhance the safety of the pedestrians and cyclists.  The highlight of this project was the smart configuration of the traffic signals installed on the junction by Lykavittos Police Station, where demand dependant stages for buses, taxis, and bicycles are used to minimise Underutilised Green Times (UGT) and create problems on the adjacent approaches. This was achieved with Above-Ground Detectors (AGD) and induction loops to detect any vehicle waiting on each Bus Lane and trigger the green light stage for Buses, taxis and bicycles.
