Ayias Fylaxeos Roundabout in Limassol (2021)

Our company has been appointed to provide a solution to the long queues formed by vehicles to reach the Roundabout during the morning, intermediate and afternoon peaks. Our desktop study has shown that regulating the traffic flows on the roundabout using traffic signals and MOVA system (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation) would reduce journey times by 50%. The system operates based on data collected from the sensors positioned on each approach at 0m, 40m and 100m from the roundabout, as well as sensors within the circular road, and dynamically allocates green times to specific approaches based on demand. In June 2021, our company has installed traffic signals on the West, North and East arm of the roundabout which operate part time to decongest the roundabout during the three peak periods. The results are magnificent, as the journey time needed to reach the roundabout from approximately 2.5km north of roundabout has been reduced from 45 minutes to 23. The same improvement has been recorder on the South arm during the intermediate and afternoon peaks, where journey time from the junction to the roundabout, has been reduced from 12 to 6 minutes.
